What better way to celebrate your birthday than having your engagement portrait taken with your sweetie at the exact spot you were proposed to? That's exactly right! Bree and Todd let me follow them around at their sentimental spot and didn't object one bit to my snapping away at all their kisses. I took them out to the Elwood Mesa bluffs to watch the beautiful sunset and the pictures truly speak for themselves. Their love and laughter was infectious and their playfulness shines in the photos. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BREE and I can't wait to see both again on your big day!
Welcome Baby Jeremiah Amare
This week I was blessed to be able to have the time to visit my dear friends and their brand new baby boy. He is breathtaking and mom and dad are doing great! Thanks for everything Steph and Thurston and I can't wait to see you again.
the new senior portrait
After talking with my high school senior clients this year, I learned they all want something totally different for their senior portrait. A portrait that is not only trend-setting but also portrays the generation and the era seniors live in today. What other era than our Digital Age? I took some snaps of my cousin, Michael, who is graduating this year and used his photos to try my new ideas. I went a little crazy on a few, but given the right communication with the senior client, finding out who they are as individuals and what they're into will make their portrait more like a glimpse into their world. Thank you Michael for being the cutest guinea pig ever!
Hanging out with my youngest cousin, Kara Joy, is purely a hysterically fun occassion! She not only has a heart of gold, an attitude that would make Mother Teresa proud, and a persona that is more like a 30 year old rather than her true age, only 8, but she is also a budding photographer. The whole time I was there taking pictures, she was always right beside me asking to take pictures herself or telling me what to take pictures of. I tell you, she is bound for greatness and will soon be editing our photos for Time Magazine! Here's an email from her mom, my Aunt Pat, relaying Kara's photos and her new found passion.
*I was just downloading my own camera shots of Mom's funeral gathering and I came across these. I don't know how many I can send at once... but it turns out you have inspired a young photographer. I can't believe how beautiful these are. I hollered for Kara to ask her who took these flower shots? And she said, "I did Mom", like it was nothing. I said, did Kristen show you how to use my camera? She said "No, I just zoomed in... ." Holy Mackerel! Now, bear in mind, my camera has been strictly off limits to those sticky little peanut butter hands and that weekend I "let" her use it, just cause I was too busy yakking with my sisters! Look what I've been missing! I'm so glad she took these. She told me she wants to be a photographer. Just thought you would especially enjoy and appreciate the 8 year old perspective. Love, Pat (and Kara!)*
Malibu Wedding
Angie and Jay were married on top of a mountain! Literally! I was invited to take photos of their incredibly beautiful and picturesque wedding ceremony and dinner. The day was gorgeous, and the mountain provided incredible views of Malibu Canyon, one place I am going to hike someday. Angie and Jay are both avid hikers and birders, so it was fitting that they chose to be married near one of their favorite trails. Catered by Elements Kitchen the food and setting was so elegant! Thank you Angie and Jay for allowing me to be a part of your very special day!
Catalina Engagement
i spent my saturday on the island mon! kris and lori invited me out to spend the day with them on the amazingly beautiful Catalina Island. since they both are huge sea faring folks, it has always been lori's dream to have her engagement pictures taken on the mediterranean themed island. what a day! not only was there perfect weather, light, you name it, the joy these two exude when they are around each other is intoxicating. i actually felt a little depressed when i had to leave them on my ferry back to the "mainland". truly! when you are around that kind of love, it is nothing short of awesome and a reminder of how wonderful life is. thank you both for an incredible walk around town and i can't wait for september 28!!
ronnie and viana got married
my favorite part of weddings is being honored to witness the joining of two families. ronnie and my boyfriend, eoin, have been friends for years and only over the past two years i have gotten to know the love of his life, viana. it's true when they say "they're a perfect match". ronnie and viana truly bring out the best in each other and their happiness was shared with all on sunday. i love this family. i loved watching ronnie's oldest son, elijah, get ready with viana and help her watch his baby brother, nyah. i loved being their photographer and also being their guest and relishing in the awesome food and fun. the day was amazingly beautiful and ... i'll cheese out here ... love was in the air. {sorry v, couldn't help it}
